Info:
Situated on the east coast of Sweden, the Ports of Stockholm are made up of Kapellskär (mostly ferry and ro-ro services), Nynäshamn (ferry services and some tanker facilities) and of course the main port of Stockholm close to the city centre. The northern harbour areas house the Silja Line and Tallink berths (Ferry), the container and general cargo terminals as well as a large oil terminal called Loudden. The vast majority of all cruise vessels visit the inner city berths at Stadsgården (Masthamnen), Skeppsbron and Nybrokajen. There is another oil terminal near Nacka called Bergs Oljehamn as well as some minor bulk terminals in Hammarby Sjöstad but these will gradually be turned into residential areas in the next 5-10 years.

Comment:
A magnificent port in the summertime when over 350 cruise vessels visit Stockholm as well as an important hub for the majority of passenger and cargo services between Sweden and the Baltic area. Because my home is located directly opposite of the oil and container terminals, I always have front row seats when new interesting ships make their way here.
Upgrades:
The Port of Stockholm will be radically remodelled in the next 10-15 years. Most of the current cargo and container facilities will be moved to a new modern harbour called Norvik just outside of Nynäshamn and the inner city and northern berths of Stockholm will be renewed to serve as cruise terminals in the near future. Eventually, the port will serve only as a ferry and cruise destination, reducing pollution and shortening the time it takes for cargo vessels to reach the terminal (Nynäshamn is a coastal harbour).
